Vision
In a context where environmental and economic challenges are becoming more and more urgent, a group of farm owners, entrepreneurs and professionals in the agro-livestock sector, agro-tourism, landscape and heritage experts, etc., have come together with the common goal of promoting a more resilient and regenerative production model that helps to preserve and boost agro-livestock activity, creating better economic conditions for the sector, and to recover the rural landscape of our environment.
We start from a deep respect for the land and a commitment to change the relationship we have with the countryside.
We believe in alliances, collaborative processes, innovation and training as tools for change; we trust that these resources will help us to set up a variety of projects that, day by day, contribute to keeping our highlands alive and increasingly prosperous based on agricultural and livestock activity and the fair processing and marketing of raw materials and processed products.
History
Serranías Vivas is constituted as an association after a reflective process of gestation that has allowed us to get to know each other, identify common problems, explore solutions and crystallise aspirations. This process has involved around fifty people and initiatives that share the same purpose: to regenerate, learn and move towards a more balanced future that respects the environment.
Our vocation is to work to promote regenerative practices that not only restore the health of the soil, but also strengthen biodiversity, improve production and allow a better quality of life for those engaged in agriculture and livestock farming, an essential condition to ensure the sustainability of agricultural activity and our landscapes. This is a prerequisite for ensuring the sustainability of farming and our landscapes.
We are creating a rich network in the territory that we hope will become dense..
Territory
Initially, our activity was limited to the mountain ranges that extend to the southwest of the Betic System; we cover more than 300,000 hectares, between the provinces of Cadiz, Malaga and Seville.
A privileged territory, with the Grazalema Natural Park at its centre, which is home to several very beautiful and still well preserved mountain ranges, surrounded by fertile plains, and crossed by several rivers such as the Guadalete or the Guadairo; we are bordered to the south by the Alcornocales Natural Park and at the easternmost point by the Sierra de las Nieves National Park.
A varied territory, which benefits from a very high rainfall in some areas, but with the fragility of a Mediterranean rainfall regime and several dry months a year. A landscape dominated by humid-sub-humid Mediterranean forest with numerous areas of great environmental richness and relevant agricultural and livestock farming activity.
Its location equidistant from Seville, Cadiz and Malaga, and its proximity to the Strait of Gibraltar, make it a very unique enclave both for its landscape and for its heritage, ethnographic and socio-economic wealth; Populated by various cultures since prehistoric times, today it is home to a community of diverse origins, settled in the territory over the centuries, which is joined each year by foreigners from various regions and countries, who have chosen to settle here as permanent or seasonal residents, some dedicated to agricultural and livestock activity; an enclave that attracts a high flow of tourists from all over the world throughout the year.
